DL380 G5 CIM service freezing

Hello,

I have 2 DL380 G5 servers - one with ESXi 5.0 Update 1, and one with ESXi 5.0 Update 2 - they both experience this issue.

After a couple hours, or in some cases a couple of days, the CIM service stops responding and must be restarted.

In my /var/log/syslog.log file I have the following errors:

2012-12-27T17:59:42Z sfcbd[3416]: Error opening socket pair for getProviderContext: Too many open files
2012-12-27T17:59:42Z sfcbd[3416]: Failed to set recv timeout (30) for socket -1. Errno = 9
2012-12-27T17:59:42Z sfcbd[3416]: Failed to set timeout for local socket (e.g. provider)
2012-12-27T17:59:42Z sfcbd[3416]: spGetMsg receiving from -1 3416-9 Bad file descriptor
2012-12-27T17:59:42Z sfcbd[3416]: rcvMsg receiving from -1 3416-9 Bad file descriptor
2012-12-27T17:59:42Z sfcb-ProviderManager[3362]: SendMsg sending to 1 3362-88 Socket operation on non-socket

These errors repeat over and over and eventually lead to:

2012-12-27T20:46:17Z sfcb-ProviderManager[3362]: SendMsg sending to 1 3362-9 Bad file descriptor

Which gets repeated over and over every few seconds.

I've installed ESX from VMware, and they installed the most recent version of the HP Offline Bundle.

When this issue happens the health status stops reporting, and I am unable to see the hard drive status.  The server also stops reporting it's status to the Insight Management Agent, so potentially I could miss a bad hard drive.

What can I do to fix this issue?  One of these servers isn't in production, so I can change things as suggested.

Thanks,

- Mike

Re: DL380 G5 CIM service freezing

Hello, as you have latest offlice bundles installed, raise case to HP, they should help. Or, try to install HP customized image on testing server - if there is the same issue.

Re: DL380 G5 CIM service freezing

Hello Mike

I'm experiencing the same issue on a DL380 G5 running ESXi 5.5 installed using the custom HP image provided by Vmware.

For now I simply restart sfcbd-watchdog service and this seems to solve the proble for a while, however it's really annoying to do this. Did you get any answer from HP regarding this issue?

Thanks,

Daniel
