Problem installing VMWARE ESX 4.1 in ML 350 G6

Hi,

I am facing problem while installing ESX 4.1 in ML 350 G6 server.
It seems the system is not recognising the DVD rom or the DVD Rom driver is not getting installed.
I am able to boot the esx,able to configure the network interface etc... but after that its prompting to select the installation method and listing four options
1.cd rom or usb
2.through http
3.NFS
4.FTP.
Once i select the option 1.Cd rom or USB its asking to select the media, but there is nothing listed to select.If i press next its saying that the selected installation media is not the correct.I am stucked up here in this step,I tried updating the firmware but still its showing the same error.
Kindly help me to sort out this issue,its urgent.

Hello,
you shouldn't have problem with your server, is supported with esx4.1..

- check is you have latest firmwares (including dvd drive)
- if doesn't help, contact vmware support.

Thanks for your reply.

My server firmware is already updated with the latest version.
And the server model is supported to use with ESX 4.1,which i confirmed referring the compatibility list in HP site.

I'mentioned firmware of dvd drive becouse I noticed assues that vmaware will not recognize some dvd's (very strange), so just wondering if it is not your case... :(

Hi Jan,

Thank you so much for the valuable replies.

Issue resolved,
I used an external usb drive and it worked.

I didnt find any update for the DVD rom firmware in the latest firmware maintanance CD.
As the VMWARE failed to Recognize the DVD rom virtual machine installations also requires a external DVD rom.
I strongly feel that there is some compatibility issue.
