9300i CDR/RW - D.O.A.

9300i CDR/RW - D.O.A.

I made the mistake of installing the bundled
software that shipped with my 9300i on win2000
before I read about the incompatibility on HP's
site.
Since the botched install, My computer no longer recognizes the drive. I've been told, by
a IT person that works for my company, that (re)installing SP2 will fix the dead drive.
I'll deal with the burning software in due
course, but the computer not recognizing that
the drive exsists at all is a severe issue
that HP needs to address.

Try downloading this to solve the issue you are having:
http://www.adaptec.com/support/downloads/fix_uninst_ecdc_w2k.reg

As for HP addressing the issue, HP do not design the software, Roxio/adaptec does. Also the issue was addressed, do not install software that is not compatible with your O/S

Thanks for the reply. I re-loaded the O.S. So,
the issue was resolved by brute force.
I have no patience.
By mentioning that H.P. should address this,
(And you responding that you're NOT obligated to do so), perhaps it would only require a
little bit more information included at the
site that deals with this drive specifically.
I've always been impressed with HP's products
and support. This issue is one of those that
may be too obscure to be given a great deal
of attention. Perhaps a link to the registry
fix on the same site that breaks down 2000
compatibility for your various CD burners?
Just a thought. But of course you're not obligated to do so.

Re: 9300i CDR/RW - D.O.A.

Are you speaking directly to me or HP?
Could you imagine what it would be like if HP started to supply registy fixes to the public on the net. Ok you might know how to use the registry but what about the oridinary Joe Bloggs from down the street? The chances of him crashing his system because of a registry fix is very high and I mean very high.
I am not aware of any large I.T company that will supply registry fixes to the public.
Roxio (who is responsible fo finding software solution) did supply a solution like stated before.

Once again, your attention is appreciated.
Who ever you are. Free-lance guru, concerned
citizen, whatever. You responded. And I thank
you.
I knew how to solve the problem. Perhaps not
the most elegant solution.(OS reload) But, I fixed it.
I didn't need to add the commentary.

-To anyone reading this because you've had a
similar issue: Listen to Gavin. He's all over
it. "Do not install software incompatible with
2000." -Simple.
Good luck. And, God bless America.

Glad to hear that its sorted,as you say its not the best solution.
I will admit that "I am not all over it", its basic common sense.
