HP CD-RW DVD Combo 9900j

I've had this product for quite a while, but last year I installed it in a new computer. I haven't had many problems playing or writing CDs, but whenever I go to play a DVD the drive makes a "whirring" noise or a clicking noise and won't read the DVD. I'm not sure how to go about solving this problem because it doesn't seem like it's a hardware problem (it reads cds), but there are no driver updates.
