Lightscribe Issues ALL DVDWriters

I purchased an HP DVD640E. It burns DVD/CDs no problem. But the lightscribe functionality is a bit to be desired. This was my main reason for purchasing it. And of course Im an employee as well. Me and just about everyone else using the LIHTSCRIBE technology are upset with the lack of support we are geting . We all have this issues at some point where during a burn of a lightscribe label the SUREthing software comes up with an error message

lightscribe communication. restart or reboot your PC.

AS of late I have update the surething labeling program to the latest the DVD640E is at the latest FW. And the last 2 lightscribe drvers updates (one from HP then one from lightscribe.org) have not fixed the issue

When is this technology going to work ..if ever

Thanks
Mikey

Re: Lightscribe Issues ALL DVDWriters

The problem with lightscribe is it too new.
I bought the first sony DVD dual side burner and I paid a lot more than it sells for today.

Did you try another type of DVD ? The lightscribe burn is only as good as the blanks you are using. Try TDK or FUGI DVD's that have the specs on the label for lightscribing. I bet you will see an improvement.

How Do I Assign Points?

Points are given as a way to say thank you for the person helping you and only the question author can assign points to a given response. If you submit a question or new topic and another member replies to it, you will see a dropdown menu of points next to the reply (you must be logged in to see the menu). Select the point value and then click the "submit points" button. Note that you can rate multiple replies and submit them at one time.

Re: Lightscribe Issues ALL DVDWriters

I find it hard to believe that one of the developers of lightscribe "HP" is selling lousy lightscribe disks. Of the 20 lightscribe disks I have "burned" labels on only 16 actually worked first time all the time. The other 4 failed. That is not a very good percentage. Verbatim disks are suspect as well looking at all the forums etc...

So what are we to do ?

Re: Lightscribe Issues ALL DVDWriters

I would try one of the brands mentioned in the links I gave you. If a DVD brand does not mention LightScribe on the label, I would not get it....

After reading LightScribe.com, it looks like the type of disk makes all the difference.

Good luck and let us know what works out...
