Need Driver for HP DVD Writer 300n, Samsung DVD-ROM SD-616E

I'm not sure how the driver was lost,
but, my system will not recognize either of the drives.
I can't seem to find it anywhere on this site or elsewhere.
Driver Version 5.1.2535.0

Thanks!

Re: Need Driver for HP DVD Writer 300n, Samsung DVD-ROM SD-616E

Hi there,
Kind of dificult to understand the problem you are having, as the issue is definitly on some jumper config, and not on the driver.
As IDE unit the HP DVD300 only needs SW in order to record, but as you install it on the IDE channel it will imediatly be recognised as an reader.
So try to check if there is any problem on your jumper config. Check in BIOS if the IDE is there and what units are recognised by the BIOS. If none, check the cable IDE and the jumpers config.
Try to install one unit first just for HW analyses matters.

Sorry about the presumption, probably is an external drive, being so the only thing you can check is the device manager for conflits.
But once more the driver for usb connections can be ordered by HP support.

Under the "General" tab the "Device Status" says:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

Jumper settings have not been altered.
Both drives are internal.
Both worked one day, and did not work the next.

I can take it to the retailer, and they say they can load the driver for $100.
My God, $100 to load a driver?!!!
That will be a last resort.

Thanks for the replies.
The solution was to replace the harddrive.
HP was also unable to load the drivers, etc. and discovered the problem was the HDD. Was replaced under warrenty. Very quick service.

Re: Need Driver for HP DVD Writer 300n, Samsung DVD-ROM SD-616E

This is the fix.....

RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, use the following method.

Method 1: Remove the registry entry
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
4. On the File menu, click Export.
5. In the File name box, type savedkey, and then click Save.
6. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type UpperFilters, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

Note If this data type is missing, go to Method 2.
7. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
8. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

Re: Need Driver for HP DVD Writer 300n, Samsung DVD-ROM SD-616E

I'm reading the reply Marty Wilde wrote which says to to start by removing the resigtry entry.

I have no idea where the registry editor is.

Not only am I getting code 39 for my ATAPI CDROM 48X device status, I'm getting it for the HP DVD Writer 300n.

Can you give us an easy to understand, step by very basic step directions to fix this?

Thanks.
