Security and USB wireless printer?
I have been asked to arrange staff wifi access to an soho printer (HP ENVY Photo 6230) which is plugged into a USB port on a pc (windoze machine) which is on a subnet with no wifi connections. This is deliberate for privacy reasons.
My problem is that the printer seems to insist that it must be connected to the same subnet for the wireless functions to work. I could install a small pc on a different subnet just for the printer and then work with managed switch but I was hoping somebody might be familiar with the underlying technology. All the HP information is so full of jargon and magic terms which have me beat.
I looked for a much better printer like a color laserjet mfp but they are out of stock and I have no idea when they will become available. If anybody can advise best option please let me know.
