how to get an existing switch configuration loaded on a new switch

I am being advised in 2 different directions  on this

one says to use export/import

one says t oscan the existing swithc and then use a "deploy tool"

 

what is the recommended way ?

If you are replacing a failed switch you can bring it up with a minimal config (using same IP address as the failed switch, same SNMP, username/password etc... so IMC has full access to it).  You should then see the switch as reachable in IMC (same device in IMC as before, new hardware).

 

Then go to configuration center-->configuration center and search for the device--> go to the ellipses dots on the right (...) "configuration file management" then select the backed up configyou want and restore that config (restore button)... it will walk through the deployment task from their and restore that config to the switch.

 

Obviusly you have to have backups for the device in IMC, but with that, the restore button is for this exact scenario.
