Information about installed softwares and patches.

I have a HP-UX 11.00 box in which I earlier
deleted the "/var/adm/sw" directory for getting
some free space. How can I now rebuild the
information about all the softwares and
patches installed in that machine so that it can be displayed using "swlist" command?
Work hard and be realistically optimistic.

Re: Information about installed softwares and patches.

I think you're out of luck. Hopefully you have some backups.

All the SD files are stored under /var/adm/sw/products, including the master INDEX file and information for all the various products you have installed on the machine.

Re: Information about installed softwares and patches.

My suggestion is to restore /var/adm/sw from backup. In 11.0 you need a larger area for /var I do not have an 11.0 system with a /var filesystem with less than 1GB. One way to save space is to do a cleanup which will remove /var/adm/save info that is no longer needed. Another way is to clean up log files in /var/mail, /var/adm, and /var/adm/syslog/. Hope this helps.

Re: Information about installed softwares and patches.

Hi:

You should never have done that! Reload the contents from a backup (or un-tar from an Ignite recovery tape).

In the future, manage the /var/adm/sw directory and its contents with 'cleanup'.

Re: Information about installed softwares and patches.

As far as my knowledge goes, there is no way to build this information as it is stored under /var/adm/sw. You need to recover this directory from backup and then restart the swagentd daemon.

Re: Information about installed softwares and patches.

We typically have /var/adm/sw on a seperate filesystem in ordee to aviod situations where /var fills up...but I suppose this doesn't help you much now.

Re: Information about installed softwares and patches.

The short answer is you can't unless you can restore from backup. NEVER do this. Use the
cleanup command to remove old patches.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
