HP CA EVA and SQL2005 integration on DR site.

Dear All,

1. We have two EVA8100 with continuous access license. One is in main site and other in DR site.
2. For replication link between DC and DR we are using two dark fibers.
3. We are using SQL2005 as database server on both sites.
4. In main site database table was created in SAN VDISK through application, which we replicated using continuous access(CA).
5. In DR site database table was also created through DR application.

What is the best way to present replicated VDISK in DR database server to use the main site database (data) after fail over.

N.B. Please see the attached cabling diagram file.

The Controller Ownerships of the vdisks may be distributed evenly from the array by setting the Path preference to Path a failover and Path b failover.


Also follow the below best practices.


For optimum performance in storage configurations with limited physical disks, it is best to combine all disks into one Disk Group and spread IO across as many spindles as possible.

=>Choose VRAID1 for best performance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database and log disks on an EVA. Choose VRAID5 when disk capacity utilization is critical.

=>Use separate vdisks for data and log files. In single vdisk, the IO performance will be impacted since logs being Sequential writes and the database being random writes

=>Use Adaptive Load Balance (ALB) enabled for the LUNs/vdisks from the host MPIO/DSM.

I believe what you are asking here is best answered in the HP P600 Continuous Access Implementation Guide.  The guide has sections on the processes for resuming host IO after a failover occurs and what the different processes are for the individual Host Operating Systems that may exist in your SAN.  Section 7 of this guide goes over the various failover situation that may occur and what procedures need to be followed for the different failover situations.  Section 8 of the guide then goes into the procedures that would need to be taken for each host OS type during a failover situation.  Hope this helps.
