HP PSP Question

Hello Everyone !

A very lame and generic question - I am planning to update a bunch of my servers using the version SPP2015.10.0, and need to know -

Do I have to update/install any drivers etc from OS after PSP patching is complete ?

As far as I have heard, running a PSP covers all the aspects - and no update via OS is needed, but still can someone please confirm this point ?

Re: HP PSP Question

I don't know what OS you run, but for supported OS you simply run SPP online and it will suggest to updates firmware and drivers.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: HP PSP Question

Hello Torsten,

Its generic - Windows 2008/2012 or ESX server - once we run PSP on it, do we have to go back again inside OS and update any drivers ?

Re: HP PSP Question

I'll try to answer again.

You can either boot SPP to update the firmware offline or run SPP online to update firmware and drivers at once.

If you update offline, you need to check/update the drivers afterwards/before.

Hope this helps!

Re: HP PSP Question

Thanks for the reply man !

please bear with me - getting confused !

lets say I boot a server with SPP and do an automated update.  Will this update both firmware and drivers ?

How about If I update the server by HP SUM ?

In both the above cases, is it needed to update drivers afterwords from OS ?

Re: HP PSP Question

SPP - service pack for proliant - includes HP SUM for windows and linux.

In offline use HP SUM is started from the boota ble SPP and updates firmware only, because it has no access to YOUR OS and cannot update drivers.

If you start HP SUM from SPP ISO while your OS is running, it updates firmware and drivers.

Hope this helps!

Re: HP PSP Question

Oh Nice ...this makes a lot of sense.

How about an ideal and recommended situation -

Install firmware offline by booting via SPP ISO.  And then run SUM within the OS for drivers.

OR

Just run HP SUM from within the OS in online mode, and let it install both firmware and drivers together.
