Re: HP-UX 11i

The basic difference is in the system kernel, where you can actually change some of the kernel parameters without the need to reboot. Using 'kmtune -l -q

The best place to look is in the release notes. Have a look here:

One more difference is that you can make root disk as part of Vxvm (Veritas Volume Manager) which is not possible in 11.00

Re: HP-UX 11i

Besides great improvements in reliability and more features, stuffed into a pretty compact package, 11i's dynamic kernel assignment is a critical feature.

Being able to adjust shmmax without bouncing the box is quite useful.

kmtune | more to see which parameters are dynamic.

Re: HP-UX 11i

hi,

To add to the above replies,

In general, 11i is better than 11.

From installation point of view, since you install an OE(operating environment) installation is much easier, since installing the OE includes the other applications.

11i also has an advantage of some dynamic kernel parameter changes, so easier to change some of the kernel parameters without having to reboot.

In terms of opensource products, 11i comes with lot of open source products.

In terms of security, it comes default with IDS.

Since it is newer, it has lot of performance improvements and bug fixes over 11.

Also, see the Specific 11i v1 Mission Critical Operating Environment documentation:
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/os/11i/mcoe/index.html

hope this helps!

Re: HP-UX 11i

Yogeeraj,

You mentioned that there are many open source products for 11i. Could you point me in the direction of some of these.

Regards,

John.
