HP9000 to HP3000 conversion

Dear All,

We need your help regarding the conversion of a HP 9000 to HP 3000 system.
Is it possible to convert a HP9000 (2CPU - rp24xx) to a HP3000??

What are the configuration requested to do such thing??

Re: HP9000 to HP3000 conversion

I think I've heard it is possible to do such a thing as to transform an HP 9000 to HP 3000.. though you ned something in the hardware department.

I would definitely contact my HP rep if I were you.
Cooperation is doing with a smile what you have to do anyhow.

HP *MIGHT* do this for you, though they will probably charge you to do it. It is POSSIBLE, but to stay legal you should go through HP as HP has the tools to do this.

Re: HP9000 to HP3000 conversion

Moving from HP9000 to HP3000 is counter to HP's strategic direction, which is to transition from HP3000 to HP9000, and the e3000 servers are no longer sold.

Thererfore I doubt you'll get much support from HP.
But good luck!!

Re: HP9000 to HP3000 conversion

Rue,

Sadly, our good friends at HP are no longer selling HP3000's. End of sales was last October 31st. They are off the price guide.

There used to be conversion kits, many years ago for K-Class servers, but nothing for HP-UX > MPE/iX since. It's a one-way street... MPE > HP-UX. IMHO, it would be better to stay on HP-UX if using any of the 'Open system' type of databases, especially ORACLE, which is DEFINETLY not supported on a 3000.

Licensing is an issue which vCSY is supposedly addressing as part of the OpenMPE movement.

Regretfully,
