Migratin from HPUX 11.11 Risc to HPUX 11.?? Itanium

I have a purchase req. in for a new Itanium test box for a proof of concept before our large server migration..

I have alot of ansi c code that is compiled in 32bit mode. Is there a site on itrc that shows a migration path from 32bit HPUX ansi c code to 64 bit?

See this page

But I think your 32-Bit Applications should run on the Itanium system through the Aries emulator.

See this for more information on aries:

All that code is going to have to be recompiled, same as it would if you migrated it to a 64 bit PA-RISC box.

The migration path depends on how you compiled it in the first place.

More important is a solid test plan to make sure the new code works.

Re: Migratin from HPUX 11.11 Risc to HPUX 11.?? Itanium

keep in mind that you do _not_ have to migrate to 64-bit to "go native" on Itanium. the default application compilation mode is still 32-bit on Itanium HP-UX.

admittedly, there is a lot of FUD out there about Itanium and 32 versus 64 bit - mostly that is people getting confused by there being no native 32-bit Itanium mode for Linux - they tend to forget to be specific and then end-up painting with an overly broad and bogus brush.

as suggested, your existing 32-bit PA stuff will likely run under the aries emualtor. or you can simply compile 32 bit and enable the migration warnings with +M2 and see what you may have ahead - you can even do that on your existing PA system today. or as suggested, you can start the 64-bit port now if you want on PA
