Migrating users from one HPUX trusted system to a new one

Folks,
We are planning on upgrading our HPUX N400 boxes to new Itanium boxes early next year. Currently we're on 11.0 and moving to 11.23. Both systems will be running in trusted mode. They are standalone (i.e. not connected to any other servers). What would be the easiest way to migrate the userids to the new box? Can we just take the /tcb directory and the password file over to the new system? (obviously the system userids would have to line up numerically).
Thanks
Jim

Also Users home directory and /etc/group file.

/etc/passwd
/etc/group
The /home directories
/tcb (recursively)

If the new system is already trusted, you can copy the /tcb over and still maintain the encrypted passwds.

Re: Migrating users from one HPUX trusted system to a new one

Hi,

Use rcp and replicate the /etc/passwd, /etc/gorup, home directories of users, and /tcb directory to the new server. Ensure that, u have opened some two or three root login sessions for the new server, before doing this activity. So that if any thing happends to the root user, can be recified without much troubles.

Do we need to move everything under the /tcb directory, or can we leave the "system" userids behind?

You should bring those files over as well because that is where the system defaults, the maximum audit id, and the password histories (to prevent reuse) are stored.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Hi,

Yes, I would recommend you to replicate entire directory structure under /tcb to the new server.
