Space between Server Racks

Hi
I intend to insatall more HP server racks into the CIM room.
For server repairs, I heard that sometimes it is required to open up the side panels to access the server. Should I leave a space between the racks?

Re: Space between Server Racks

Hi Kenny,

To be quite honest the answer is no..

we have a number of racks which are joined together. This provides support & stability when servers are being serviced on the fly in the racks.

Other wise you will need to provide stabilising kits for each individual rack you have ..

Plus we have never had to take the side of a rack off to service a server.

Hope that helps

regards

Re: Space between Server Racks

Kenny:

as john stated above, you do not want the racks to be freestanding if at all possible. You should attempt to "bay" them together as well as provide the stabilization feet on the ends.

Baying/Coupling Kit 10000 Series â Carbon 248929-B21
The baying kit is used to join two or more racks together in minutes to crate a multibay configuration. The baying kit supports 24" and 600mm floor tile spacing. Sides of adjacent rack frames are joined together and optional side panels are then placed on the two ends of the multi-bay configuration.

Stabilizer Option Kit 600mmwide, 10000 Series 246107-B21
An anti-tip stabilizer provides stability and support when equipment is installed, removed or accessed within the rack. It is recommended you use a stabilizer option kit with a stand-alone rack.

Take a look at the best practices guide for using ProLiant Racks:

Here is a nice read for datacenter design:

Enjoy!
