disaster recovery of Itanium VPARs 11.23

Could someone please tell me whether it is supported to net recover a vpar to a smaller standalone box?
For examples a 2cpu VPAR on an rx8640 back to a 2cpu rx3600/26xx/16xx .

How does the EFI partitioning of the root disk work in this case?
Am I looking at a clean install and frecover/netbackup bprecover?

I understand that make_tape_recovery is NOT supported in Itanium vpars, which has blown up our existing DR plans and sent us back to the drawing board.

Which version of Vpars are you using?
If you have A.04.03, using a tape recoveryu IS supported, see:
http://docs.hp.com/en/5760/vPars_DVD_TAPE_NET_Usage_V2.pdf

Re: disaster recovery of Itanium VPARs 11.23

Hi Melvyn,

swlist says:
B.11.23.01.04 vPar Provider - HP-UX
vparstatus -V shows version 2.0
Its 11.23 patched to Sept 06.

Does that mean its supported?

Re: disaster recovery of Itanium VPARs 11.23

If you are using Vpars version 2, that is no longer supported at all!
Check the product number isnatlled, it should be T1335BC for HP-UX 11iV2

Also, read pages 8-11 of http://docs.hp.com/en/1705/oc.pdf
This tells you the various versions of Vpars, and also supported hardware, i am afraid it does NOT list rx3600 as supported

Re: disaster recovery of Itanium VPARs 11.23

We are running 4.03.

Tape recovery at that level is only supported on PA_RISC, NOT Itanium2, according the last document listed above.

This is why we were wondering if we could restore a vpar as a singleton HP-UX instance on a small server, booting from /stand/vmunix directly, not via /stand/vpmon.
