hp-ux 11 Vs 11i

Hi,
I have good experience in administration of hp-ux 11.Now we have upgraded our servers to 11i.

My question is what differences are there in practically (command wise ) between hp-ux 11 and 11i in your experience for the daily routine work.
Please mention any plus or minus points you have noticed

Re: hp-ux 11 Vs 11i

Hi,
11i is performance/hardware enhancement for 11 so as far as sysadmin job and commands are concerned there should not be any major difference as such.

See if the link below helps you out.

You could read the Release Notes at:
http://www.docs.hp.com/hpux/os/11i/index.html

or under /usr/share/doc there are two files, 11iRelNotes.html or 11iRelNotes.txt which will explain a few of the things you are looking for.

Re: hp-ux 11 Vs 11i

hi,

Well there is a lot of differences between hpux 11 & hpux 11i which, i think is difficult to mention all here.
I will advise you to
Follow the below link and mark it as favourite and refer to it whenever you are dealing with related matters.
Also there are volume wise man pages given there which are of great use.
Pls read the release notes as this will tell
you the difference between the earlier & this release.

Hope this helps

Re: hp-ux 11 Vs 11i

Hi

There are very few differences between 11 & 11i on a commad level.. e.g. scripts, bdf, ioscan, ls, find, tar, netstat will behave pritty much as per 11.0.

However, that is not to say that there are numerous differences between the two e.g. kernel, the way it manages memory etc. For instance we have seen that 11i uses more memory that 11.0 so if you like to see memory usage less than say 70% you may find that this threashold is breached on 11i. But the way you monitor this usage is the same.

11i (as far as I can see) has one very majour change or feature .. 11i supports nPar & vPar (hard and soft partitions)... For some people this is the "Killer App" that makes 11i attaractive.. This is obviously new in 11i and worth looking at
