These sets of documentation should be with the respective products.

Example, you get the Oracle CDs for the specific flavor of UN*X. Included in the box set are the instructions for installation.

Same for the other applications.

The installs can be very straightforward as long as you READ THE DOCUMENTATION.

Find the documentation that came with the software and go through the READ ME FIRST (or whatever similar document) and the INSTALLATION GUIDE (or whatever each company names it) and make sure you have all prerequisites met (patches, kernel parameters, etc) before you start.

RTM

Each application is different. and you have apps from 3 different vendors.

You can do one of two things.. Generally each application will have an installation booklet, follow the example..

OR

HIRE the vendor to install it for you.

I've installed Oracle and Tivoli under AIX in a previous life. We had support contracts for both and the vendor was very helpful and could VPN into our systems to assist as well. I ran into a roadblock with one of them and they connected and fix the roadblock.

Hi,
for the Oracle Installation you could start at:

I have found it very useful to join the Oracle Tech Network

Re: installing oracle, websphere or trivoli on hp/ux

If you've been able to install any piece of software in the past by reading the INSTALL GUIDE or Install Chapter or Readme.Install, etc. - AND - you know at least the basics of HP-UX (user/group management, filesystems, bit of networking, etc...) then you should be able to install any software "PROPERLY."

Why PROPERLY? So your install is prepped up for growth, upgrades, etc.

One tip though in the case of Oracle Install -- get yourself familiar with VNC software instead of a PC based X-Windows emulator. The Installer GUIS (which you will certainly use at first and now mostly Java-based) run faster on VNC than on X-Server emulation (eXceed, KEA, etc.) -- even if you're on the same LAN as the server.

Re: installing oracle, websphere or trivoli on hp/ux

Hi

It will be better if you have the install document and follow it but there might be issues with that because there are times something is not mentioned in the installation document,it is always better to have a person who has already installed the product to do the install since there are many other factors to this install like
patches
kernel tuning
filesystem layout
startup & shutdown scripts
there are still more,it is always better to go with someone who has installed this products or have to contact the vendor and install it .

Hi;

The installation procedure of oracle..

Create an dedicated lv for Oracle installable file and directory.

Create a directory by name oracle
#mkdir /oracle
#mount /dev/vg05/lvol6 /oracle
make an entry in fstab file..

Create a user id by name oracle
#useradd -d /home/oracle oracle
#passwd oracle
Enter the password for the user oracle

Mount the oracle installable CD
Search for setup file and readme file. Go through the readme file.
