Hi there,
interest with vlan technology, I plan to implement VLAN on my network. I bought HP 2510G for my network.
Can I do this:
- make 3 VLAN
- 1st VLAN --> port 1 - 10
- 2nd VLAN --> Port 11 - 20
- 3rd VLAN --> 21 - 24
1. in general condition, all port connected each other.
2. but some condition, we need to split it.
3. and in another condition, we need to: 1st vlan <--> 3rd vlan, 2nd <--> 3rd vlan, 1st vlan X 2nd vlan
are those condition possible to be implemented?
thanks.

SolutionHi no_name,
Short answer: No. The 2510 is not a routing switch.
Longer answer: You can set up your VLANs as specified, then implement the policies you want to use in an external firewall/router that is connected to all three VLANs. In this case you would set aside one port on your switch that is a tagged member of all three VLANs.
If you don't want to spend a lot of money on it, some choices that might work for the firewall/router are:
- Vyatta Core or pfSense on an Intel system
- Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite
- OpenWrt on a Netgear WNDR3800 or similar
- Mikrotik RouterOS on an RB2011 or similar
All of these can do what you're looking for, with varying levels of complexity and ease-of-use. It all depends on what you're trying to achieve.

Re: Ask - more than 1 VLAN run simultan
Hi no_name,
All of the router/firewall systems i mentioned use software in some way. Operating them is outside the scope of this forum - you'll have to work it out from reading the manuals. A web search for each of the product names i mentioned will point you to the respective vendors' web sites, where you can find the documentation.
