Increasing ping delay on network (ProCurve Switch 5412zl )

Hello bright ones.

I have had a problem with my IP phones for a few days now.
I have a ping 10.0.0.65 -t running and the scenario on that is that once in a while (Every 5-20 second) I have a delay on the ping.
It starts really low, but slowly increase until it’s up to about 3300 ms. 99% of the pings are the usually 15-30 ms.
It takes about 16 hours to build up to 3300 ms and when it gets high enough I get 100% packet loss for about 15 seconds and the network is fine.
Fine as in the phones are working and the delay is so low I can’t detect it on a simple ping.

The interference is starting when the delay is about 450 ms.

Any "easy" way to detect the problem?

What is the system where you run the ping from?

What is the device you are pinging?

What phones?

Which SW is your switch running?

Do you have problems if you don't have the continuous ping running?

I'm running the ping from my laptop inside the network.

I'm pinging a network device within the network. When there is a ping delay on more than 400ms, the IP phones looses connection. (The ones talking cant hear eachother for a few seconds)

A mix of IP phones.

Product: ProCurve Switch 5412zl (J8698A)
Version: K.14.47, ROM K.12.20

I have the same problem without the ping.


Can it be one faulty cable causing this delay and how will the switch react if the cable is removed? Will the delay disappear at once or will it go down slowly?

And another thing . . .
If I devide the IP phones into two VLAN's, and isolate one single phone, will there be delays in both VLANs?

As it is my phones are in VLAN 40.
If I make a brand new, say VLAN 50 and add one of the phones it that, would the "noice"/delay move between those VLANs?

Does that make sense at all? :)
