ProCurve Switch 2824 (J4903A) Won't Boot

Last week I realized that one of my ProCurve 2824 switches (J4903A) was using an out-of-date version of the firmware. (I'd installed firmware I.10.77 when I bought the switch [used] on eBay but forgotten to change the boot partition.)

After changing to the boot partition the firmware (I.10.77) loaded correctly and the switch operated as-expected. I shutdown the switch and walked away. When I returned, a week later, however: The switch bon't boot! During POST, the switch complains:

Waiting for Speed Sense.  Press <Enter> twice to continue.

Is there anything that can be done to recover the switch?

e.g., Is there a mode similar to Cisco's ROMmon mode (that allows administrators to apply a new firmware image using XMODEM)?

There's got to be a mode similar to Cisco's ROMmon mode - something that provides a way of getting around corrupted firmware images!

Anyone?

Would this sort of thing be covered by the ProCurve Lifetime Warranty?
