Procurve J4899B HP Toptools Port Mapping question
Hello everyone,
I use multiple procurve switches (J4899B) in a business enviroment and i would like to make a port mapping. My question is, will hp toptools make the job? the scenario is to find which device is connected to what port, or at least a MAC address based on routing table and destination. Also is hp toptools available for windows 7 cause i saw in the downloads page that it is available for Windows 2000 NT 4.0 and XP.
Thanks in advance

Re: Procurve J4899B HP Toptools Port Mapping question
Hmm, I would think toptools is long obsolete?

Re: Procurve J4899B HP Toptools Port Mapping question
you can do the mapping by CLI.
#conf
#mirror 1 port B8
#interface c17
#monitor all both mirror 1
That's what i have done on my e5406zl switches to make wireshark messure on a port.
is that what you was looking for ?

Re: Procurve J4899B HP Toptools Port Mapping question
Hi again and thanks for the time,
Thanks for the info, seems that toptools hasn't got a new topic since 2013 so i'll have to give up on that.
Thanks for the help but i'm not familiar with the cli commands you are referring. I don't want to use any packet sniffing, i just want to have a map from the ports, i thought there would be a way for procurve to check routing table and give some MAC addresses. Is there any pdf or guide to do that from cli?
Thanks again

Re: Procurve J4899B HP Toptools Port Mapping question
show arp - show the IP and mac-adresses that the switch has learned. even which type static / dynamic and the port its coming from.
show ip route
show interfaces brief
show intefaces status
try to write "show ?" to see the many diffrent options, you can't mess anything up by only "show" commandos..
type "show IP ?" also works.
happy hunting :)

Re: Procurve J4899B HP Toptools Port Mapping question
Thanks a lot for the help,
I guess with show i'll see a LOT of routing in a 48 port switch, so indeed i'm about to have a trip!
Thanks again
