Questions about managing switch

Hello, 

I recently took over in IT at our company. We need to access the control panel of a switch but the password is unknown. The switch model number is 2910al-48g. I am aware of the Clear button on the front but am wary about using it without asking a few questions first.

1) Will there be any noticable hiccup for anyone on our network? I don't want to kick anyone off anything they are doing.

2) Will this only clear passwords and nothing else? I want to keep all config and only remove passwords.

If you press the Clear button for a few seconds the username and password will be cleared. The rest of the config will be retained, and there is no traffic interruption.

Does this clear the password for the web interface or just the console?

Both
