Using USB To RJ45 Adapter Console

Hello,

I came to this work a few weeks ago and all switches are HP but using DHCP and without web configuration interface enabled.

We haven't a console cable with usb port, so I want to know if I can access the switch using a USB to RJ45 adapter and a rollover cable or something like that.

Thanks a lot.

Re: Using USB To RJ45 Adapter Console

The way I see it, you have 4 options:
1. connect the switch to a network port where DHCP is available, the switch should by default have DHCP enabled to acquire a network address. Then telnet to it.

2. Connect the switch console port to a laptop/PC with a serial port using the rj45-DB9 cable that comes supplied with the switch.

3. Connect the switch console port using the RJ45-DB9 cable that comes supplied with the switch to a DB9-USB converter that you need to buy, and connect that to a USB port on your laptop/PC.

4. Buy a USB console cable and connect that from the switch USB console port to your laptop/PC USB port.
