RDP Best Practices and scripting

I've been asked to re-do our RDP implementation because we are experiencing nothing but problems with it. Unfortunately I know next to nothing about RDP. I'd like to find some "best practice" resources for the implementation and image creation. My goal is also to create only a small number of hardware independant images, does anyone know of a good resource for sysprep to do this?
