SmartStart Extended Background Self Test error
SmartStart 8.7 fails:
Hard Drive 1. Storage Controller in Slot 0 – Extended Background Self Test
Hard Drive 2. Storage Controller in Slot 0 – Extended Background Self Test
The rest of the diags for the disks pass. Only self test fails.
Running SmartStart 8.6 the error received is:
Short Background test fail Error Code F187
Also, other disk test pass.
Any ideas?

Re: SmartStart Extended Background Self Test error
Hi,
I have no solution, I have the exact same situation on 2 HP BL460c G6 CTO Blade OEM where the motherboards where been changed and diagnostic shows everything green except for:
Hard Drive 1. Storage Controller in Slot 0 - Extended Background Self Test failed 31 ms
Hard Drive 2. Storage Controller in Slot 0 - Extended Background Self Test failed 31 ms
I was googling around what this extended Background Self test is doing and obviously I did not find any informations.
Help would be appriciated,
thanks in advance

Re: SmartStart Extended Background Self Test error
Same issue on a DL385G5p, running attached to an MSA70 with 2.5" sas drives. I get these failures fairly often when testing drives purchased from vendors. The drives seem to work fine, but i'm just curious as to what exactly the test tests, or what a failure really means.

Re: SmartStart Extended Background Self Test error
I just discovered that drives running firmware revision HPDB will fail this extended background self test. For some reason, the automatic firmware update from the Firmware 9.3 DVD failed to update 8 of the 25 drives in my MSA70 shelf. The other 17 took HPDE. I'm not sure whether this is due to a manufacturer discrepancy, with some OEM's only allowing certain revisions, (will check on this later) but it's interesting nonetheless.
It simply appears to be a case of some revisions not supporting the extended background self test, and thererfore failing by default.
Hope that helps anyone, i'll try to manually update code on those 8 and update this post again.

Re: SmartStart Extended Background Self Test error
I happened to have exactly 8 drives that were none of these model #'s, and therefore were only allowed to have HPDB, and therefore failed the Extended Background Self test.
