URGENT: Windows 2008 + DAgent + HP NIC Teaming
We have a problem. When we are using the HP NIC Teaming, the DAgent will not working. In the Deployment Solution, the computer leaves gray. When we delete the server in der DS console and restart it, the client cannot create an inventory object and the servers not seeing anymore in the DS console.
We found following error in the eventlog:
Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'and'.
Statement(s) could not be prepared.
The ODBC Settings are correct.
When we remove the HP NIC Team then works like a champ.

Re: URGENT: Windows 2008 + DAgent + HP NIC Teaming
If you enable verbose logging on the Dagent, restart the service and then check the log file you will see errors showing that the MAC address could not be mapped to an IP address.
The problem appears to be that the HP Network Configuration Utility is not compatible with the Dagent that ships with RDP 3.80. The Dagent is unable to read the MAC address of the virtual adapter.
Incidentally some forums suggest that disabling IPv6 will help with NIC teaming. It has no effect on this problem.
This problem does not occur on server 2003 using the Aclient that ships with RDP 3.80.
I'm somewhat perplexed that HP did not test NIC teaming with RDP and Server 2008 before release :( It is a fundamental requirement for most organisations.
I currently have a call logged with HP's RDP team for this problem. Should they or I find a solution I will post it here.

Re: URGENT: Windows 2008 + DAgent + HP NIC Teaming
Before teaming the NICs force a reinstallation of the Network Configuration utility. Run one of the following packages from the PSP version 8.00 with /s /f
Server 2008 x86 - Cp008420.exe
Server 2008 x64 - Cp008425.exe
Server 2003 x86 - Cp008413.exe
Server 2003 x64 - Cp008414.exe
I have found this necessary on Server 2008 sysprep image deployment jobs.
* The task to install the PSP included in the Out of the box Image Deployment jobs doesn't appear to force re-installation of any components already present.

Re: URGENT: Windows 2008 + DAgent + HP NIC Teaming
I have the same problem when nic teaming is enable. The RDP agent (and only the RDP Agent) no longer communicate with the RDP38 Server.
The problem seems to only occurs from within Windows 2008 server. our old Windows 2003 systems still work.

Re: URGENT: Windows 2008 + DAgent + HP NIC Teaming
"The Altiris agent for Windows 2008 (dagent) is does not work with teamed NICs."
No patch will be made available for RDP 3.80
The problem will be fixed in RDP 3.82 which should be released around November 2008.
FYI there are also problems using the imagex imaging engine with RDP3.80 taking images of server 2008 (works fine for server 2003). This is due to be fixed in DS 6.9 SP1 and the upcoming release of RDP 3.82

Re: URGENT: Windows 2008 + DAgent + HP NIC Teaming
As soon as the NIC's get teamed via our Altiris scripted build the server loses connectivity with the deployment server and scripted jobs stop processing. If we break the team they work again. This is when using dagent.exe as the client agent. We had tried using aclient.exe but this was crashing under Windows 2008 when it was started.
We worked around the issue initially by performing the teaming at the end of the build, however when we needed to go back and add more scripted changes to the servers we had to break the teams again or run the tasks manually. Thats pretty lame when we have a lot of servers to make changes to.
We have logged a call with HP (#2603200017) and am awaiting more feedback. To date we have been advised this will be fixed in RDP 3.82 which will be available in November 2008 or January 2009...thats just too far away!
This must be causing some pain for other systems people worldwide and given the type of bug I am surprised that a hotfix/update can not be released in the meantime. If we had to build a 1000 servers it would involve significant effort to have to manually team them all.
Currently we are looking for an alternative solution, if anyone has one we would be happy to hear it...
