I am new on using SmartArray ..
I am using ML 350 G5 with 128MB Ram of the SmartArray E200i Build-in
Plus have 4 HDD + 1 HDD Hot Spare
I want to using those 4 HDD to make 1 Array ..
But after that, it can let me crate more than 1 Logical.
I am wonder, do it is useful for performance improve?
Like using 2 Logical Disk
The First Logical Disk for 20GB for OS and Windows AD
The Second Logical Disk for Data save and install Program Like SQL Server and DFS using ..
Thank you.

Re: 1 or 2 Logical is better performance?
what kind of raid level do you want to use? What tool did you use? ORCA (press F8 while booting) or ACU / SmartStart?
Best regards,
Patrick

Re: 1 or 2 Logical is better performance?
you need to create an array with four disks. After that, you can create a logical drive with a specified raid level (raid 0,1+0 or 5). You can create furthermore more than one logical drive.
Do you get any error message while creating the logical drives?
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Patrick

Solutionas far as I understand you didn't tried nothing, only ask what is better.
From the array you can make RAID 1(2HDDs) is made for OS&apps and 2nd log. drive - RAID 5 with 3 HDDs for data (when there are 5 HDDs like in your case). In both case you have redundancy, but you can use the space of only 3 out of 5 HDDs. In raid 0 and 5 there is a 1 HDD fault telerance for both logical drives, so you will not need spare.
Best performance (more read) you will get with 5 HDDs in RAID5, but you increase the risk of log drive failure and OS & data are not physically separated...
Regards,
Pac

Re: 1 or 2 Logical is better performance?
surley you can create more then one logical drive. With four disks you can create logical drives with RAID 0, 1+0 and RAID 5. I wozld prefer RAID 1+0 for SQL, but RAID 5 for fileservices (more read then write IO). So in your case I would recommend two logical drives, each as RAID 1+0. It's need more space for redudancy, but you will achieve more performance.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Patrick

Re: 1 or 2 Logical is better performance?
I suggest you to read this manual, start from page 78, it will provide you a brief description of the fault tolerance methods plus advantages and disadvantages.

Re: 1 or 2 Logical is better performance?
Is better two logical drives, is better to divide the OS from DATA two increase fault tolerance, Performance? Depends of the load, check the previous document, it talks about raid speed and that kind of info
