Re: 2 Questions (Proliant PL1600R)

OK...

Here's my plan:

-Run the System Erase disk (Thanks Dave); this should delete all the partitions from what I understand (but will it also format them, or would I have to do something else to format my HD's properly?).
-Then run the Assisted Installation from the SmartStart CD I recently obtained; then install Windows 2K ADV Server...

*These are my current HD setups:
1.) 18.2GB
2.) 18.2GB
3.) 18.2GB
4.) 9.1GB

As you can see, the 18.2GB is where the OS is loaded. I wanted to switch #4 to #1, making my 9.1GB as my Master HD. If I do this, should I do the swap first before running System Erase, or should I do the swap of HD's after I run the System Erase Utility?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You can do the swap before or after. As long as it is before you install the software.

Re: 2 Questions (Proliant PL1600R)

Leon,

Here's what I did: Swapped my 9.1 with my 18.2 (so the 9.1GB became the MASTER HD). Then I ran the System Erase Utility. Then booted the SmartStart CD. It kept saying that there was a previous installation in there, hence I couldn't get it to install my OS. So I reswapped my HD's again...Making my previous MASTER HD (18.2GB) back to MASTER. Did the System Erase, then Booted off of SmartStart CD's...Now the Installation has started. Was wondering why I couldn't get my 9.1GB to do the installation? Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: 2 Questions (Proliant PL1600R)

I'm getting these errors if I swap and make my 9.1 as MASTER:

172 System configuration nonvolatiole memory invalid
Initialization aborted
172-1 Configuration nonvolatile memory invalid

162 System options not set

Am I supposed to do something to the HD's to make the switch?

Re: 2 Questions (Proliant PL1600R)

Your bootdisk should be seated at slot with id 0. These error messages are normal, you have to run scu to configure your machine. This can be done with smartstart or from diskettes

Re: 2 Questions (Proliant PL1600R)

Hello Leon,

I was just doing some searches on Array Configuration Utility. I came across two links that has it, but unsure on which one I should download. Please advice...Thanks!

Re: 2 Questions (Proliant PL1600R)

You need the system configuration utility:

I don't think you need the array configuration utility since there is no raid controller in the system, or is there?

Re: 2 Questions (Proliant PL1600R)

Hello Leon,

You're right!, my server doesn't have an Array Controller :( Too bad, but nonetheless, I configured it for RAID 5 (Software but still).

I finally sorted out my 9.1GB to be my main OS HD...It's all configured now so it's all set...All I have to do is upgrade the Drivers....Thanks for all the help, everyone!!!
