2nd processor does not show in Task Manager

I recently added a 2nd processor to our ML370 G2 server. I reconfigured the drive for an ACPI Multiprocessor PC. However, I do not see the 2nd processor in Task Manager and the Hardware Devices shows only the one processor. What do I need to do?
Help!

Re: 2nd processor does not show in Task Manager

Is the second processor seen during post? Are there any errors during post? Was the server rebooted after the computer type in device manager was changed to ACPI Multiprocessor PC?
The truth is out there, but I forgot the URL..

Re: 2nd processor does not show in Task Manager

Hi,

You need to update the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) with the ones designed for two CPUs.

refer to microsoft support:

Re: 2nd processor does not show in Task Manager

Hi James,

Make sure the processor is POSTed to begin with. If not the processor is not detected by the system.

When you install windows OS at first if you ahd only one processer then by default a single processer HAL(Hardware Abstraction Layer) will be installed. Therefore, when you add a second or more processor the HAL should be updated to a multi processor HAL through the steps in this link
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;156358

The otehr option you have is to reinstall the Operating System so that the installation processes will detect two processors then a multiprocessor HAL will be loaded by default.

Re: 2nd processor does not show in Task Manager

Things to check: (mostly covered by the other ppls responses)
=>Is the server BIOS up to date?
=>Does the second processor match the first processor specs
=>Do the two processors initialize on POST?
=>Is the ACPI Multiprocessor installed HAL installed?
=>Does your system management home page see the two proc sockets populated
=>As for the task manager, There is a setting in the task manager ├в Performance├в tab, you need to go to the menu bar View-> CPU history -> and set it to one graph per
ThereтАЩs your problem!!! This thing is set to EVIL!

Re: 2nd processor does not show in Task Manager

Thank you all! I will investigate some of these ideas. Some I have done, but others like firmware I have not.
