4105 event ids-lost network link

I have (2) 1600 servers ..
-(1) d840bwv10297
-(2) d937cnk1a276

I'm using the on-board ethernet card which is connected to a 100Mb switch. The problem began last week when we set the switch to 100Mb/Full no auto-sense. The errors are:

-CpqNF3 - 4105 - Network link is down...
-CPQRCMC - 16 - The device driver Cpqnf31,reported a warning...
-CpqNF3 - 4106 - Network link has been restored...

both servers were getting 4105 errors. I installed the latest SSD NIC drivers and rompaq on both...

Server (1) no longer reports errors, but server (2) keeps reporting the same errors in Event Viewer. The errors are always grouped together. The first two happen at the same time, then the third appears about 5 seconds later. I receive the errors anywhere from once a minute to once every 15 minutes.

The only difference between the two are serial #. Server (1) is newer (d937cnk1a276), server (2) is (d840bwv10297).

the brainbuzz message board reported...
"This is a documented problem from Compaq for Proliant 1600 and 1850 servers with the integrated 10/100 card on some switches. The problem doesn't manifest itself on networks without a switch for some reason. You need to look at the serial number on the box to verify your machine falls within the 'problem area' dates. The digits you need to pay attention to are the 2-4 numbers. They represent the week and year the machine was manufactured. You will see something like this: D843XXX10000. The date this was made was the 43rd week of 1998. I believe (not sure) that the problem existed up until around the 46th week, so this would be a good place to start."

What is the fix????

Re: 4105 event ids-lost network link

Try updating the System ROM on the Server , Also check cabling make certain it is Cat 5 . Make certain the NICS are set to 100mbs FD ,not auto-sensing .

Re: 4105 event ids-lost network link

I have the similar error on 5 W2K servers. Rarely , but it happened 3th time during 3 months - all W2k servers on Proliant1600 and 1850r disconnected from network. Servers reply on 30% ping, but nothing more. Didn't find any errors in Integrated log and eventvwr. All of them work with Netelligent 10/100TX PCI UTP Embedded Controller, drivers 5.0.1.14 and 5.0.1.8.

Switch - "Cisco Catalyst 6509"
WS-C6509 Software, Version NmpSW: 5.5(2)
System Bootstrap Version: 5.3(1)
Hardware Version: 2.0 Model: WS-C6509

Re: 4105 event ids-lost network link

I have the exact same problem with my 2 1600's.dated 37th week 98!

Using a Bayswitch 28114 100mb unit I also receive these errors.

I also ensured cables are cat5 and set the switch ports and the nics to 100Full Duplex.

I still receive errors and will now try the rom update !!
