5i Smart Array Controller

Is there any way to completely disable the 5i smart array controller. I do not wish to use any kind of raid with my SCSI hard drives.
I have seen previous discussions saying to remove to controller board, but I cannot find it. I believe it may be embedded in to the mother board.
I have also tried to disable it via the bios settings, however when I do this the Smart Start CD cannot find the hard drives and wants to erases the system.
Any ideas on how to complete disable raid on this type of Server (DL360 G2).

Re: 5i Smart Array Controller

Hi
The 5i controller is a card the clips on to the system board . If you look at the machine from the front ( drives facing you ) , the 5i is on the right side ( L shape ) .
If you remove it, you have to change the Interlock SCSI switch , or else the machine will fail to boot .

Re: 5i Smart Array Controller

Compaq have informed me that the G2 generation have the controller embedded in to the mother board. The only way to disable it is through the configuration settings at boot up. However once you disable it, the hard drives can't talk to the mother board so you can't install the OS.
I think compaq may have removed the standard SCSI controllers off the motherboard - I'm going to ask them about this too.
