5i smart array firmware upgrade problem

System: Proliant DL380 G3 running latest firmware (10/31/2003)

Upgrade 5i firmware from 2.56 to 2.58 and it states success, but on reboot it will state it still has 2.56. Unable to load 2.58 but the system constantly reports success.

Try running both the offline upgrade using the firmware update CD and the Windows on-line update.

I work in a hp integration centre, and as such don't work with machines with O/S installed.

The method I've tried for upgrading the firmware is the offline method using the f/w upgrade after booting the smartstart CD.

We still have no resolution to this problem, which seems to be affecting about 5% of DL380's that come through us.

We have the same problem with one of three new DL380 G3. Reinstalling the 2.56 or downgrading to 2.38 is not possible, but the SmartStart-CD reports "success". Only one of them had the 5i firmware version 2.56 preinstalled. The other two servers had the version 2.36... no problem to upgrade them. I am in contact with HP Support. If they have a solution, i will post it here.

We still have this issue, unresolved. Only way we fix it is to replace motherboard. Actually, all firmware upgrades/downgrades report "success" but they don't change the firmware at all.

Please log a call for this with your local HP support organization and ask them to elevate your support call to the ISS CC.

We have the same problem by one of five DL380 G3 servers. We can't update the smart array 5i firmware from 2.56 to 2.58. Hope they found another solution and we must not change the motherboard.

May be it has to do with the system BIOS. Was the system BIOS updated brfore the 5i firmware upgrade??

We use the BIOS out of the Box (10/31/2003) since the machine is 3 weeks old.
But we made a unattend installation using the conrep tool to set the BIOS.
