600GB 10K 2.5 in SAS drives in DL380 G6?

I've been asked to reallocate and rebuild several servers for a new client. They've asked me to fill one of their DL380's with eight 2.5 inch 10K SAS drives, which from what I can tell HP does not offer.

I'm fairly certain I can use non-HP drives (likely at the expense of voiding the HP warranty) but are there any other gotchas?

I'd much rather be using HP provided drives of course. But the customer seems unconcerned even though I've let them know it will likely put the server out of warranty.

Hi,

You should use HP 600GB 6G SAS 15K rpm LFF (3.5-inch) Dual Port on the server.

Not support 600GB 10K 2.5" SAS Drive.

Regards.

I'm sorry but you are incorrect in thinking that there are no 2.5 inch drives larger than 300GB. Multiple manufacturers produce 600GB 2.5 inch drives. Seagate has the Savvio 10K SAS drive in 600GB, Western Digital has the 10K Velociraptor 600GB SATA3, Toshiba has a 10K 600GB unit as well. And for that matter my laptop has a Western Digital 7200 RPM 1TB drive in it.

ok, in term of real product you are right - i see Savio drives - must be pretty new, but HP has not adopted yet them.
Generally they should work - if you are able to byu them somewhere.
In my company we stay with HP supported drives.
