6i controller on DL380G4

Can a 6i controller only manage the 6 internal disk trays or can it manage an MSA30 tray also?

Thanks.

Thanks for the fast replies!
How many disks can a 6i manage then? When would a 620x card be more appropriate?

Re: 6i controller on DL380G4

The Smart 61 can support up to 20 drives. here are the specs for all of the Smart Controllers:

However, I would strongly suggest using a Smart 640x for anything more than a few drives, and especially if you need better performance. The 6i is primarily intended as a simple way to provide RAID for a few drives, for example a mirror set for the boot volume for the OS.

If you want max performance, get the 640x. It has a larger cache and runs on a faster bus.

Thanks,
Doug
