Hi.
Excuse me if you think I shouldn't be here, I'm not an IT guy I'm a private person with a 385 that was gifted to me and I would like to use. I've tried Redditt and I'm still stuck.
I have networked my home; 4 x cat 6 ports per room in 4 rooms. In the loft I have a 6u cabinet containing the patch panel, a 24 port managed switch, a power strip, my router, modem and injector for a Ubiquity WAP which is hidden downstairs. It all works flawlessly.
As I was doing it I received a blade server as a gift. It was being recycled from a school as they upgraded. I'm told it has been wiped and left with a copy of server 2008 but I haven't been able to look that far to see in it. It's a ProLiant DL385p Gen8 with 8Gb ram, one processor and 2 x (300ish?) gb drives.
My problem is that I can remotely access iLO4 but cannot remotely access the operating system, if any.
My question is, what facalities do I need to be able to do so? An advanced license? A monitor attached to the server? Specialist softare on my day to day win 10 PC? Something else?
My hardware setup is as follows.
I have put the server on a shelf near the 6u and plugged the iLO input jack into the patch panel. I have placed another cable into jack 1 of the four jacks on the rear. It's powered up and idling quietly. From my router I can see two related entries. One is called "FILE-SERVER" on 192.168.1.23 and the other called "ILOCZJ41600P6" on 192.168.1.22.
Opening Chrome I enter 192.168.1.22 and see the iLO login screen. The username and password is on the case and works. I am in to iLO 4 and can see the hardware stats etc. All green.
It has a Licensing page, on which it states I do NOT have an advanced license. Do I need one to access the O/S from my desktop?
"Licensing iLO Advanced or iLO Advanced for BladeSystem enables true Lights-Out Management by enabling many features:
- Authentication: Directory integration, Kerberos with Two-Factor authentication, HP Single Sign-On
- Remote Console: Virtual KVM (Integrated Remote Console), Console capture, replay, and share, Text Console
- Virtual Media: Image, CD, floppy, USB-key, scripting, folder...."
If they help I have images and screenshots on my Imgur account in a hidden album.
Many thanks if you can help. I'm in the UK and doing some decoration so I won't be back to read this for a while. Don't think I'm ignoring any replies.
MG
{Edit} I forgot to add that if I try to log in to the other IP by entering the IP address in the URL bar of Chrome, the FILE-SERVER on 192.168.1.23, I just get a failure screen.

192.168.1.23 took too long to respond.

SolutionHello,
Greetings.
To use the iLO feature completely, an Advanced License is required. Once the Advanced License is added to the iLO, you will be able to manage the server remotely.

Re: ABSOLUTE NEWBIE in uk. What do I need to possess to have to access and use a GL-385p Gen8 server
Thank you. They look very expensive so maybe I'll just sell the server on.
