ACU do not show any alerts, but SAS drive LED flashing amber.

Hello. I've got ProLiant DL360 G6 server with 8 SAS drives (15k 146GB) on P410i controller. The LED on one drive in 8 bay indicates that drive is in predictive failure state. But everithing works fine. Array configuration utility found no problems and do not display any alerts. System logs (Winodws 2008 R2) are ok too.The drive is a part of RAID 0+1.

Do I need to replace the drive? If "yes", what I need to do to keep RAID working? Thanks.

Hi,

The adu report does not show any hard drive error.

The drive in bay has experienced some read errors but nothing major or else adu would have reportted as failed.

The controller firmware is 3.66 which is pretty old. Please update the firmware and see if the drive still has amber led.

You cand ownload the firmware from the link below:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3902575&taskId=135&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=3902574&lang=en&cc=us

Select the OS and download storage controller firmware version 5.14

after firmware update > reboot server and check if there is amber led. If it is still there then please share the latest ADU again and will provide you my action plan. Most likely in that case we will need to replace drive. However let us update firmware > reboot and check.

How to say thank you? Please click the white Kudos star :)

Thank you. After firmware update this led didn't stop flashing. ADU reported some information: it looks like someone tryed to remove the drive. Unfortunately I'm not the only one who has acces to the server. So, is it necessary to do something with the drive in this case?

Re: ACU do not show any alerts, but SAS drive LED flashing amber.

Hi

I went through the report , one of the hard drive needs replacement

Physical Drive 2I:1:8 Drive has failed M&P testing due to excessive errors.

LogicalDrive : Logical Drive 1
Fault Tolerance Mode RAID 1: Mirroring

1I:1:1 1I:1:2 1I:1:3 2I:1:5 2I:1:6 2I:1:7

LogicalDrive : Logical Drive 2

Fault Tolerance Mode RAID 1: Mirroring

 1I:1:4  2I:1:8

2I:1:8 - Drive has to be replaced which is part of logical drive 2

Read Errors Hard 300
Predictive Failure Errors 40360

Last Failure ReasonHot Removed

* As you see above 2I:1:8 this hard drive is failed and Im assuming this is the hard drive that would be blinking amber and some one would have reseated as it was blinking , please have a call logged and get the replacement hard drive

Re: ACU do not show any alerts, but SAS drive LED flashing amber.

OK. Thank you guys. So, if I have a new drive with the same type and capacity, can I just pull old one from working server and replace it with new one without performing any operation in ACU?

Hi,

Yes, you need to just replace the failing drive. No Downtime required and the drive will start rebuild on it own.

Re: ACU do not show any alerts, but SAS drive LED flashing amber.

Yes as you see 2I:1:8 is failed and is in raid 1, drive can be removed and insert a new drive and rebuild should be initiated, ideally one Gb of data will take 15mins to rebuild

LogicalDrive : Logical Drive 2

Fault Tolerance Mode RAID 1: Mirroring

 1I:1:4  2I:1:8
