ASR Detected by System ROM

Hallo,

We have 8 servers ProLiant DL380 G5.
All are domain controllers Windows 2008 and working 1 year without problems.
All servers (besides one) unexpected restarts (3-4 times last week) with "ASR Detected by System ROM" message in Integrated Management Log. What should be wrong ?
Anyone had the same problem ?

Thanks in advance

Re: ASR Detected by System ROM

ASR works basically like an egg timer: when the hardware management driver starts running, it activates the ASR hardware timer. The timer starts ticking down from the configured value (by default, 10 minutes). Periodically (say, once per minute), the hardware management driver winds the timer back to the start value of 10 min. So the ASR timer should never reach zero while the system is working correctly.

If anything bad happens to the OS, so that the HW management driver is rendered unable to reset the timer for any reason, the ASR timer will keep on ticking until it reaches zero... and at that point, it will trigger a hard reboot at the hardware level.

So, something caused your system to lock up or be so busy that even the hardware management driver did not have time to run for at least 10 minutes.

Check the system event logs in the OS. Any messages like "the system has rebooted from a bugcheck" might offer more information.
