ASR on DL360G2 (Linux AS 2.1, with management agents)
We have installed 30 DL360G2 with RedHat AS2.1, and some management agent. All for the machine produce, after few days (or weeks), an ASR:
ASR Lockup Detected: (casm device driver alerted)
After stopping the HP agents, no more ASR/Hang of the boxes.
Any idea ?
In /opt/compaq/cpqhealth/cpqhealth_boot.log, we have:
cpqhealth driver loading at Thu Feb 27 20:45:20 CET 2003 on Linux kernel: 2.4.9-e.3smp
Warning: loading /opt/compaq/cpqhealth/cpqevt/2.4.9-e.3smp/cpqevt.o will taint the kernel: no license
Loading the hp ProLiant Event Logging module . . .
Warning: loading /opt/compaq/cpqhealth/cpqevt/2.4.9-e.3smp/cpqevt.o will taint the kernel: no license
Warning: loading /opt/compaq/cpqhealth/cpqasm/2.4.9-e.3smp/cpqasm.o will taint the kernel: no license
Loading the hp ProLiant Advance Server Management module . . .
Warning: loading /opt/compaq/cpqhealth/cpqasm/2.4.9-e.3smp/cpqasm.o will taint the kernel: no license
The ProLiant Advanced Server Management module has been
loaded sucessfully for this Linux kernel: 2.4.9-e.3smp
What does that mean ????
Thx

Re: ASR on DL360G2 (Linux AS 2.1, with management agents)
ASR Lockup Detected: (casm device driver alerted).
I'll try now to disable the insight agents to see if the hangings stop.
For how long has your system been stable since you disabled the agents?

Re: ASR on DL360G2 (Linux AS 2.1, with management agents)
First, no agents are involved; the casm messages are coming from the 'health driver' or Advanced System Management Daemon. One of its functions is to talk to the ASM chip which handles environmentals and ASR. Eliminating the driver is not eliminating the problem that the ASM chip is seeing...it only eliminates the message and the action.

Re: ASR on DL360G2 (Linux AS 2.1, with management agents)
- when unactivate agents, no more ASR (3 weeks on 15 boxes);
- after installing the latest version of agents, no more ASR two ... (more than 2 weeks on 15 boxes).
Strange, no ? On the same hardware, but with NT4 SP6, no-one in my team had this sort of problem (250 boxes).
I let you conclude ...
Sam.

Re: ASR on DL360G2 (Linux AS 2.1, with management agents)
We got about the same proble, with a DL580G2 system, running SUSE 7.3, with Kernel
2.4.18-64gB-smP.
We followed some of the sugestions (included Compaq) of remove the Compa/HP agents, but we got another HANG on the system, the difference is that now :
- The system dos not reboot after 10 min (stay freezed forever).
- There is no message on the Management console.
Is any one with an idea of what can be causing this.
This system is the main member of a Lifekeeper Linux cluster, the have backup member, a DL380G3, with the same configuration, never got a problem.
Dos any one have an idea of can cause this problem.
