Accessing IDE drives on a P800

Apologies if this is a repast - my first attempt didn't make it.

I want to be able to access two IDE HD's from another server in an elderly Proliant P800 (Dual Pentium Pro) I have "inherited"

Can someone please tell me how I do this?

I have read (and re-read) all the other posting in this forum and I think I can - with limitations.

If I have understood correctly

* I I can have DIE HD??s on IDE ribbon 1
* I will not be able to boot from them
* The second IDE connector is there physically
but can't be used because the BIOS doesn't support it

Could someone confirm/correct the above?

I would then appreciate knowing how to get the OS to recognised the HD's A 4.3 Gig Samsung Drive and/or an 850 Meg Western Digital. Using the Hardware Configuration options in the config software doesn't work, the BIOS doesn't report the drives as there!

no.,.the ide chain in this server as with most compaq servers does not support hard drives..you will need an ide controller
We are here for a good time, not a long time!

That's false. I've got a 2xPPro 200 with an IDE 20 Gb HD as slave primary and everything works OK.
