Add 2 16GB ram to existing 4gb ones

Hello everyone!

I've got Proliant DL 380 G6, that has got 8x4GB DDR3 memory installed.
I want to put additional 32GB of RAM, but not sure that it is right and will work.

Any considerations should I have?

In iLo i see that how memory installed now:

PROC 1 DIMM 1G : not installed
PROC 1 DIMM 2D : 4096 MB 1333 MHz
PROC 1 DIMM 3A : 4096 MB 1333 MHz
PROC 1 DIMM 4H : not installed
PROC 1 DIMM 5E : not installed
PROC 1 DIMM 6B : 4096 MB 1333 MHz
PROC 1 DIMM 7I : not installed
PROC 1 DIMM 8F : not installed
PROC 1 DIMM 9C : 4096 MB 1333 MHz
PROC 2 DIMM 1G : not installed
PROC 2 DIMM 2D : 4096 MB 1333 MHz
PROC 2 DIMM 3A : 4096 MB 1333 MHz
PROC 2 DIMM 4H : not installed
PROC 2 DIMM 5E : not installed
PROC 2 DIMM 6B : 4096 MB 1333 MHz
PROC 2 DIMM 7I : not installed
PROC 2 DIMM 8F : not installed
PROC 2 DIMM 9C : 4096 MB 1333 MHz

If I purchase 2x16Gb is it OK if I insert them in "PROC 1 DIMM 1G" and "PROC 2 DIMM 1G"?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Add 2 16GB ram to existing 4gb ones

I'm sure you will find memory configuration rules in the owners guide, one of them will be

DIMMs must be installed in decreasing capacity with the largest DIMMs installed in the first slots.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Add 2 16GB ram to existing 4gb ones

Another 4 x 8GB would be my guess. You have two banks of 16 (4 x 4),

You need to fill both CPUs evenly, if you have two of them. Filling a 3rd slot will slow you down one speed.

You also need to decide on double or quad rank. Double is up to 18 sticks, quad is up to 12 sticks.

Thanks Michael A. McKenney.
I'll take 4x8GB dual.
