Add RAM to Proliant ML150 G5
I recently bought a new HP Proliant ML150 G5 with 1 GB RAM installed (2 x 512), and then added additional 4 GB RAM (2 x 2GB).
The 2 x 512 were installed at DIMM 1 and 2, and I installed the 2 x 2 GB at DIMM 3 and 4.
This worked fine and the server booted up with 5 GB installed memory.
Today I bouth another set of 2 x 2 GB RAM to get a total of 9 GB.
I installed them in DIMM 5 and 6 and booted up. I don`t have a console on the server right now, but there were 8 long beeps after boot and the fans were constantly running at high speed.
The DIMMs are drawed like this on the mainboard:
1A
2A
3B
4B
5C
6C
I then moved the 2 x 512 to DIMM 5 and 6 and the 2 new 2 x 2 GB to DIMM 1 and 2, but the same thing happened.
I then took out the 2 x 512 in DIMM 5 and 6 and then the server booted up like normal and showed 8 GB RAM installed.
Why isn`t it booting with the 2 x 512 installed?

Re: Add RAM to Proliant ML150 G5
hi
do you have part number for all memory modules?
this server only supports Dual Rank in the first 4 slots...
memory rules
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12901_na/12901_na.html#Memory
- just in case clear CMOS and try all memory modules again
- also update system ROM to the latest

bye
