Add to SATA Raid 5 Array
I have a Proliant ML350 g4p with a SATA Raid Controller. I have 4 drives in the bays, set up as Raid 5. Can I add 1 drive to the array without losing data? I want to make the array 1 TB from the current 750 MB. I'm pretty sure I have to do this manually from the Adaptec Array Utility at POST. I'm pretty sure this can be done, but it's been a long time since I have configured this array and it has to be done when no users are needing the server.
Thanks,
James
Thanks,
James

Re: Add to SATA Raid 5 Array
James,
Can you run the HP ACU? (Array Configuration Utility). If you can, I think you can use to online wizard to add the new drive into the existing array (and Logical Drive).
I'm not famillar with SATA drives, but HP ACU works with SAS and SCSI drives.
If you are running Windows 2k3, this can be done "on the fly".
With other OS types, you'd need to run SmartStart CD to access the ACU or go through the Adaptec utility during POST.
As always , with any proceedure involving your "live data", have a good recent backup, just in case....
Regards,
Louis

Re: Add to SATA Raid 5 Array
Nope...the utility does not support SATA Raid Controller.
I downloaded the new config utility, but have not had a chance to try it while the users are not on the server....just wanted to be sure before trying!
Thanks,
James
