Re: Adding 2nd Hard Drive

Adding 2nd Hard Drive

Hi everyone.
I have an HP Proliant ML310G4 with a SmartArray controller card.

The system currently only has one Hard Drive (160GB).

How would I go about adding a second hard drive and run the 2 in RAID0 without loosing any data? Is this even possible?
Many Thanks

Re: Adding 2nd Hard Drive

Hello,

just add the second disk and add it to the existing array. This can be done with ACU. After adding the second disk, you can expand the logical drive.

Hope this helps.

Re: Adding 2nd Hard Drive

ok.

ive added the 2nd drive and added it to an exsisting array.

How in "My Computer", nothing has changed.

If I go into windows Disk management, it says Unknown and Not initallised.

I want this 2nd drive to be combined with the first one to give 2X160GB in RAID0.

Please help

Many Thanks

Re: Adding 2nd Hard Drive

hmm ok looks like i made a mistake. I must have clicked "Add logical drive" instead of "extend logical drive".

OK, now in windows disk management, I see the new free space on the same disk as the current space (good news i guess).

How do I combine this into one nice partition?

I want to do this properly in RAID0 controlled by my smartarray controller.

Cheers

Re: Adding 2nd Hard Drive

Hello,

you can use diskpart (search the windows help for syntax). But remember: You can't extend the system drive, and drives which contains a page file.
