Adding 32-bit 3.3V PCI USB2 adapter causes ML310 failure...

I don't understand this. We wanna use a USB disk to backup an ML310 (Win2K3 Server), but the mobo USB sockets are USB1.1 (12 Mb/sec). So we tried to install a USB2 PCI adapter in one of the 4 64-bit PCI sockets (3.3V, 33 MHz). System wouldn't even power on.

5V and 3.3V mobo sockets are keyed differently so that it's mechanically impossible to mix them up. Anybody have an idea as to why a 32-bit 3.3V PCI adapter won't work in our ML310?

Hi Andy

USB ports on ML310 are USB2.0 and not USB1.1.Please refer to following link

So you do not have to install additional USB card. However if by pluggin USB PCI card if server doen not power on, PCI card may be faulty. Check the card in some PC.

Re: Adding 32-bit 3.3V PCI USB2 adapter causes ML310 failure...

Thanx for your note, Mahesh. However, our ML310 isn't G2; it's an older ML310. When I plugged the USB disk that has a USB2 interface, Win2K3 displayed a dialog about plugging a USB2 device into a USB1.1 socket.

Hence my desire to add a PCI USB adapter. Can't find a true 64-bit 3.3VDC at local stores. However, shouldn't a 32-bit 3.3VDC adapter also work? The one that I tried was new with the ALi M5273 chip onboard.
