Adding SCSI drive to Compaq Raid 5 Array

I have a Proliant ML370 production server with 3 18.2 GIG drives. I want to add two more drives to the raid array. Questions:
1. What are the detailed steps?
2. Should I add them one at a time?
3. How long will it take for the new drives to rebuild?
4. Can I add them while the server is running?

Hopefully this will be simple.

I am not a HP engineer, but I can give some suggestions.
1.Use management software to do it ,mabye choose expand logical drive
2.I think not, maybe one disk every one time.
3.Your capacity is not so big ,so time is not so long ,maybe less than 3 hours
4.Normally U can do it online

Hi,

Please me know the smart array controller you are using in the server. It`s a feature of raid controller.

1.Do u want a make additional logical drive or like to add in existing logical drive, to increase space.

2.You can add one by one.

3. Rebuiding is tottaly depend on the data you have in the hard disk. Moreover, you can set the rebuild pirority in advanced option in ACU ( Array configration Utility )

4.Yes, you can add them while running the server.

Re: Adding SCSI drive to Compaq Raid 5 Array

Hello and thanks for the responses!!!

To be more specific, I am using the Compaq Array Configuration Utility. I want to expand the current logical drive on E:\

Current Configuration:
C:\ 6 GIG
E:\ 28 GIG

I am adding 2 18.2 GIG drives.

Jim,
Best thing is to download the user guide and follow the Array controller Logical Drive Extention and OS logical drive expansion.
Adding the drives is simple, just insert them and you will be prompted to add. Now expanding you E:, OS logical drive is a function of the OS or other software application, expanding or join a new partition together to create a single, E:, including the new free space
