Adding a DLT Drive

DOES ANYONE HAVE THE EXACT ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS ASKED UNDER THE MKDEV TAPE COMMAND WHEN ADDING A DLT DEVICE TO THROUGH SCOUNIX FOR TEH COMPAQ PROLIANT 5000?

We are currently running Sco Open Server 5 (Sco_SV 3.2v5.0.2)
on a Compaq 5000 Proliant Server. At the end of the email, I have a few questions for any firms on ScoUnix that have successfully installed a DLT tape device.

In attempting to install a DLT tape device to backup Informix, the Compaq server recognizes the SCSI device, but we cannot TAR a file to the DLT through ScoUnix. We configured the device through the command "mkdev tape". Our DAT devices were configured as "General SCSI Devices" and the host adaptor driver "cha". We chose the same options for the DLT device (the general SCSI is the only option that made sense from those listed) and "cha" as the host adaptor driver.

Compaq support recommends that we upgrade our EFS, choose "clad" as the host adaptor driver, and then relink the kernel after configuring the DLT.

If you have a DLT tape device on your system, please answer the following where applicable:
ScoUnix version?
Server?
If Compaq, EFS version (command at prompt = "cpqefsver")
Host Adaptor Driver? (in the "mscsi" file under directory /etc/conf/cf.d/ )

We also tried to remove the improperly configured device through ScoAdmin, but it did not allow us to do so and also didn't communicate any errors. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Adding a DLT Drive

The driver used by your scsi controller is cha. I would probably talk to technical support for guidance installing this dlt drive, we will be able to configure this device since we can do it live with you on the line.
