Again: Mixing SAS and SATA Devices on E200i (ML350 G5)

Hello,

as the forums says two different things, let me ask again please.

I want to buy an ML350 G5 with 2 SAS Drives included (SFF). Those will be in a raid1.

I also want a SATA HDD and a SATA-Streamer (AIT2) in this server.

Now my two questions:
1. The HP 120 GB SATA 1.5Gb/s Festplatte Hot Plug - 2,5" (5.400 U/Min.) is suggested with this server - will it work with the E200i?
2. Is there any internal SATA-Port for the streamer?

The forum says it is possible, but will it work with the suggested setup?

This post says i have to buy another controller:

Thanks in advance

Re: Again: Mixing SAS and SATA Devices on E200i (ML350 G5)

To know what's and what's not compatible with a server, look always at the Quickspecs.

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12475_div/12475_div.pdf

So let's check:

HP 120GB 1.5G SATA 5.4K SFF HDD 431786-B21 -- YES

SATA-Streamer (AIT2) -- NO

It's not on the Smart Array E200 quickspecs either:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12460_div/12460_div.HTML

E200i has 2 x4 connectors (maximum 8 SFF disks)

That AIT drive is HP??

Well i just decided to use the HP StorageWorks DAT 160 USB EX instead.

Thanks for your reply.

I've accidently run a tape drive off a raid controller by HP. When the tape drive bus hangs, it will also hang the array bringing your whole OS down to its knees. Poor decision to rely on main storage adapter for tape drive purposes!
