Amber light on HDD

Hi, recently i saw one of the hdd has the amber light flashing on it, ok, so i check the status on ACU, but it appears on the ACU that the HDD is OK, i have asked the engineer to come down and replace the HDD anyway. But is there an explanation on the status showing OK even with the amber likght flashing?

Amber flashing means the drive is going to fail.

sometimes the backplane or controller doesnt get a fast enough reply from the disk and then it turns amber. if the ACU is saying that the disk is fine, most of the time it will be enough to turn the server down and reseat the disk

Amber flashing, mean the drive is degraded, and possible will fail.

You can't see degraded in the ACU.

Use the system management home page.
On the SMH you can see it's degraded, and why.

The best way to troubleshoot this is to first colelct the ADU report (Array Diagnostic Report) and analyse it before changing parts.

Hi Guys, thank you so much, got it replaced, yea i have to send in the ADU report, and verified that fault lies on the HDD itself, thanks again :)
